On October 22, the Barcelona-based "super angel" fund Masia announced the final close of its debut fund, totaling €18 million. This news was reported by Tech.eu; the fund manager’s own website provides no further details.

The fund invests in early-stage startups within the fields of AI and frontier technology, with a clear connection to Barcelona. Ticket sizes range from €125,000 to €250,000. The fund does not take on lead investor roles, nor does it hold board seats. Masia is a spin-out from the Spanish fund-of-funds, Aldea Ventures.

The investor base consists of over 70 limited partners. Including founders, executives, experienced investors, and two institutional investors, whose names were not disclosed by Tech.eu.

To date, Masia has invested in 46 startups. Furthermore, the firm has opened "Masia House" in Barcelona. A space spanning over 1,000 square meters designed for founders, international VCs, and operators.

For founders, an angel fund of this nature can act as a powerful force multiplier. When Masia invests, it brings access to a large group of founders, operators, and investors along with the capital and therefore potentially opening more doors than a single VC investment might.
